Pupil Premium
At Newman School, we are committed to ensuring that every child and young person has the opportunity to achieve positive outcomes, regardless of their background or circumstances.
The Pupil Premium is additional funding provided to schools to improve educational outcomes for disadvantaged pupils. We use this funding carefully and strategically to help remove barriers to learning and provide pupils with the support, opportunities and experiences they need to succeed.

Our Approach
While socio-economic disadvantage is not the primary challenge faced by many of our pupils, we recognise that disadvantaged pupils can experience additional barriers that affect their education and future opportunities.
Our Pupil Premium strategy therefore focuses particularly on improving outcomes in four important areas:
Academic Attainment • Communication • Employability • Preparation for Adulthood
We believe every young person deserves the chance to discover their strengths and ambitions. Through carefully planned experiences, enrichment activities and personalised support, pupils develop confidence, resilience and the skills needed to thrive in education, employment and life.
These priorities complement Newman’s wider curriculum, where Communication, Independence and Resilience underpin learning and Preparation for Adulthood provides a golden thread throughout a pupil’s education.

Removing barriers. Creating opportunities.
How We Use Pupil Premium
At the heart of our approach is high-quality teaching, supported by targeted interventions based upon a clear understanding and assessment of each pupil’s individual needs.
Pupil Premium funding helps us to provide opportunities and support that may include:
- high-quality teaching and targeted learning support;
- personalised interventions informed by assessment;
- support to develop communication;
- opportunities to develop independence, life and social skills;
- access to a broad and balanced curriculum;
- high-quality careers education, information, advice and guidance;
- meaningful work experience and employability opportunities; and
- preparation for further education, future destinations and adult life.
Our approach is driven by the individual needs and strengths of each young person, rather than assumptions based upon disadvantage or labels. This enables us to identify the skills, experiences and support that will make the greatest difference to each pupil.
Communication
Finding a voice. Building connections.
We support every pupil to develop meaningful ways to communicate, express their choices and build positive relationships with the people and world around them.
Independence
Building skills for life.
We create opportunities for pupils to make choices, develop practical skills and become increasingly confident and independent in their learning and everyday lives.
Resilience
Growing confidence. Embracing challenges.
We support pupils to experience new opportunities, overcome challenges and develop the confidence and resilience they need for learning, adulthood and their future.
