Remote Learning Information

We recognise that remote education will look different for individual Newman pupils. Some pupils may require adapted resources, communication support or significant adult support to access learning at home, while some aspects of their usual specialist provision may not be possible to reproduce remotely.

Where remote education is appropriate, arrangements will therefore be personalised wherever possible, taking account of the pupil’s age, needs, communication, EHCP and individual circumstances. We will work closely with families and relevant professionals to determine the most appropriate approach.

Safeguarding and Wellbeing

The safety and wellbeing of pupils remain central during any period of remote education. Newman will maintain appropriate contact with pupils and families and follow the school’s safeguarding procedures throughout.

Purpose

Attendance at school remains the best way for pupils to access Newman’s specialist teaching, support and wider school experience.

There may, however, be limited circumstances where a pupil is unable to attend school in person but is well enough to continue learning. This may include short-term individual circumstances or occasions when the school is unable to provide education safely on site.

Where remote education is appropriate, Newman will consider each pupil’s individual needs and circumstances and work with families and relevant professionals to provide suitable learning and support.

Lead Responsibility

The Principal is responsible for overseeing delivery of remote education.

Roles

  • Teachers – plan lessons, set work, provide feedback, and maintain regular contact.
  • Support staff – provide targeted support and small-group activities.
  • IT team – manage Microsoft Teams, support access and provide technical troubleshooting.
  • Parents/carers & pupils – engage with lessons, submit work, and communicate any issues.

Continuing Learning

Our remote learning provision helps pupils continue their education whenever they are unable to attend school, ensuring learning remains consistent and disruption is kept to a minimum.

Supporting Every Learner

Successful remote learning relies on a shared commitment between school, pupils and parents. We work together to provide the guidance, resources and communication needed to help every pupil remain engaged and continue making progress.

Learning from Home

Pupils, parents and staff all play an important role in making remote learning successful. Clear communication and regular engagement help ensure pupils continue to learn with confidence.
