The School Day

At Newman School, we aim to provide a welcoming, supportive and purposeful school day in which every pupil has opportunities to learn, communicate, develop their independence and make progress towards their individual goals.

Our school day is carefully structured around the individual needs of our pupils. Alongside curriculum learning, pupils may access personalised support, therapies, communication activities, life skills and opportunities that contribute towards their Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) outcomes.

Families are asked to ensure that pupils arrive ready for the start of the school day. Where pupils use home-to-school transport, we work closely with families and transport providers to support safe and efficient arrivals and departures.

  • The school day: 09:10 – 15:25 (31.25 hours)

Throughout the Day

Learning at Newman extends beyond individual lessons. Communication, independence and resilience are embedded throughout the school day, with pupils supported to develop skills that will help them participate as fully and independently as possible in school, at home and within their wider community.

Our curriculum and daily routines are adapted to reflect pupils’ individual learning, sensory, communication, physical and medical needs.

Attendance

Regular attendance is important in helping pupils benefit fully from the learning, specialist support and experiences available at Newman School.

Further information about attendance, including what to do if your child is unable to attend school, can be found on our Attendance page.

Communication

Finding a voice. Building connections.

We support every pupil to develop meaningful ways to communicate, express their choices and build positive relationships with the people and world around them.

Independence

Building skills for life.

We create opportunities for pupils to make choices, develop practical skills and become increasingly confident and independent in their learning and everyday lives.

Resilience

Growing confidence. Embracing challenges.

We support pupils to experience new opportunities, overcome challenges and develop the confidence and resilience they need for learning, adulthood and their future.
